2011 Office Testing Evaluator was created and provided by Ratna Palakodeti, M.D. If you have questions about the evaluator, please send an e-mail to the OAFP office.
Deciding what test can be provided to the patients in the office is a big dilemma for many family physicians.
Does the cost of the equipment justify the service the physician intends to provide? What is the reimbursement? How many tests need to be performed to break even? How much revenue needs to be generated to make profit? What are the running costs? What would be the cost of staff time? All these are the questions that haunt family physicians when trying to incorporate a testing device in one’s practice.
A simple tool that gives all the parameters and approximate costs and reimbursement is presumed to be a very useful tool to a physician in a busy practice or to a physician who is considering starting a practice.
The Office Testing Evaluator is such a tool, which gives the physician the opportunity to evaluate commonly performed tests in the office. It has the great flexibility to change any of the parameters to suit your practice and it gives answers to the above questions in very simple and clear format.
The purpose of Office Testing Evaluator is to act as a guide. The parameters should not be interpreted, either explicitly or implicitly, as the correct or absolute parameter, as such parameters would be different from practice to practice and location to location.
- The contents in the calculator are for illustration purposes only.
- Technical requirements: your system should be able to accept the Microsoft Excel program.
- The figures in the cells with blue lettering (c,f,g,i and k) can be changed. The rest of the columns automatically calculate the corresponding values.
- There are extra rows created to include tests of your choice.
The values are based on 2011 Ohio Medicare reimbursement figures. Even though every effort has been made to check the accuracy of the figures, users should check the figures for themselves.
