Cardiovascular Genetics in Family Medicine

In partnership with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), OAFP has developed an audio continuing medical education (CME) program titled, "Taking Heredity to Heart: What Family Physicians Should Know About Cardiovascular Genetics" with featured family physician presenter, Clint Koenig, M.D., from Grant Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program and certified genetic counselor, Amy Sturm, from the Division of Human Genetics at The Ohio State University. The program was previously recorded live on April 11, 2007.

Program Overview
Family physicians are uniquely positioned to identify families with hereditary risk factors that may benefit from genetic counseling and genetic testing—heart disease is no exception. Through the identification of these high risk families, family physicians can help to provide options for prevention, screening and/or treatment for various forms of genetic and familial heart disease so that the family may benefit for generations to come.
